☮ This Too Shall Pass

Another week has gone by, so that calls for Share a Smile Sundays #2. I’m forever looking for quotes, and among the hundreds that I’ve read and heard, ‘this too shall pass’ was one of the first quotes I can remember hearing that has really stuck with me. My mam said it to me a couple of years ago, and since then I’ve found that it’s one of the most applicable and realistic quotes to everyday life.
Just like there are good times, there are bad times too. And just like the good times come and go, so do the bad ones. If you’re having a bad day, or something has happened that’s upset you or maybe you’re just stressed out, try to remind yourself that you won’t feel like this forever. Time goes on, and so too do your feelings. If you’re worried about an exam that’s in a few weeks, just think that it will come and go. The day will come, you’ll do the exam and it’ll be over. Before you know it, you’ll be looking back a few months later and it will all be over. You can do a lot of things, but one thing you can’t do is stop time. Whether you’re happy or sad, time goes on, days become weeks and weeks become months. It’s your decision how you want to spend your time.
It can be so easy to get caught up in the moment, to think that you’ll feel like this forever, happy or sad, worried or not, but you won’t. It always helps to put things into perspective: how big really is the problem you’re facing, what can you do about it, and will it matter in ten months? Because something that seems so big now, probably won’t mean that much in a few weeks, or even days. I’m not saying to wish your life away, but rather to remember that this day won’t happen again. You’ll never be in the same exact position again, and you will never feel the exact same way again. So, make the most of the good days. Literally stop and smell the roses. Next time you’re having an amazing day take a step back and let yourself think, ‘today is a good day.’ And as for the bad days, take a deep breath and know that these feelings will pass. Get yourself a cup of tea, grab your best friend and watch a movie. You won’t feel like this forever, that’s one thing that’s guaranteed.
So next time you’re feeling down and you don’t know what to do, try and remember that ‘this too shall pass.’ It won’t solve your problem, but it will make dealing with it a lot easier knowing that you won’t be stuck in that position for ever. This quote says to me to make the most of the good days, and know that the bad ones are just that – bad ones. They won’t be like that everyday, and this day will never ever happen again.
I hope that everyone had a good weekend, and that this week is even better than last!
