Summer – a new season and a whole new load of beauty products. We spend all year wishing for the sun to come, but when it does we curse it for making us sweaty, making our makeup slide and making us show off our milk bottle legs. Maybe we should all give the sun a break, after all, there’s a product to help with any woes you have about the sun.
First and foremost, SPF is an essential. Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defence is perfect for applying under makeup, you hardly know it’s there. A primer will keep shine at bay and make sure that your makeup doesn’t slide off as soon as you step out the door. Benefit Porefessional Primer gives a smooth base and helps makeup last all day. A new addition to my makeup bag thanks to a very kind friend (hey girl ;)), NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser is the ultimate summer base. It gives good coverage, is dewy without being shiny and is light enough to wear even in high temperatures. Plus it has SPF 30 – a total winner. A good 3in1 palette, like the Naked Flushed is perfect for travelling and carrying in your bag for touch ups. This product is thanks to another very kind friend (how lucky am I?!) and I haven’t gone a day without using it. It contains a blush, highlight and bronzer which are all gorgeous. You can’t go wrong with a gold eye and glossy lip for summer, MAC Pigment in Melon is my new favourite gold, and MAC Lipgloss in Clear Water is my current go-to gloss. Just a little dot of gold in the centre of the lid and a slick of gloss and you’re summer makeup ready. It wouldn’t be an Irish summer without a false tan, right? Cocoa Brown, Gorgeous Bronze and He-Shi Express Liquid Tan are my favourites. He-Shi is really easy to apply and is great for building colour. Last but not least is bright nails. I got this Nails Inc polish in Optic Flame free when I bought a toothpaste last week, and I love it. It’s a neon coral that looks great with a tan. I think I’m going to get this polish colour in Shellac on my nails for my holidays!
