NYX Soft Matte and Xtreme Shine Lip Cream Review

Image

NYX is a makeup brand that I’ve been dying to try since hearing nearly every beauty YouTuber and blogger rave about it – it’s affordable and is famous for its great quality. When we passed by a Ricky’s store in New York I ran in and totally raided the NYX stand, why isn’t NYX on sale in Ireland yet?! I picked up a few lip products and cream blushes, and I must say that I am totally impressed. The sooner NYX comes to Ireland, the better!

From top to bottom:

One of the most talked about NYX products is their Soft Matte Lip Cream, and for only $6 each I don’t know why I didn’t pick up more. The colours that caught my eye were San Paulo and Milan. San Paulo is a dark rose-pink and Milan is a lighter pink. As I said before, I love creamy lip products and struggle with matte products, as they are usually quite drying. These matte lip creams totally changed my view! NYX has combined matte with creamy, making the perfect non-drying matte lip product. They feel rich and moisturising on application but then become a soft matte, so you get both moisture and the gorgeous matte effect. The colour pay-off is great, one application lasts hours, even through food and drink. If you are apprehensive about trying matte lip products, these just might be what you’re looking for. They work better than matte MAC lipsticks I’ve tried and don’t settle into the lines on your lips or leave a ring around them (that’s not the look I try to go for) – they’re definitely worth a place in your makeup bag.

I hadn’t heard of NYX’s Xtreme Shine Lip Creams before, but for only $6 each as well I thought I’d give them a try. I stepped out of my comfort zone and went for the shades Dolly Girl and Spicy. Dolly Girl is a vibrant, hot pink while Spicy is a strong, pillar box red. This product is like a mix between a lipgloss and lipstick, similar to Rimmel Apocolips. The pigmentation is amazing and once again, has great staying power. I’d describe these as juicy, but I don’t think that’s the right word. I hope that you know what I mean :’) They’re rich and moisturising, and the formula is quite thick. They provide a great shine (which doesn’t show in the picture, sorry!) and slightly stain your lips, but not too much. These lip creams are also really easy to apply, no need for lip liners or mirrors here – they glide onto the lips.  If you can get your hands on these, I’d really recommend giving them a try!

What are your favourite lip products? Have you tried anything from NYX before?
